Impulse turbine — high-head applications

Pelton Turbines

Pelton turbines are impulse turbines generally considered for high-head hydropower applications. A free water jet from one or more nozzles strikes double-cup buckets mounted on the runner periphery, converting the kinetic energy of the jet directly into shaft torque.

Reaction turbine — medium-head applications

Francis Turbines

Francis turbines are reaction turbines generally considered for medium-head applications across a wide flow range. Water enters a spiral casing, passes through a stay ring and adjustable guide vanes, and flows radially inward through the runner before exiting axially through the draft tube.

Reaction turbine — low-head, high-flow applications

Kaplan Turbines

Kaplan turbines are axial-flow reaction turbines generally considered for low-head, high-flow applications. The propeller-style runner with adjustable blades, combined with adjustable guide vanes, allows efficient operation across varying flow conditions.
